What this scheme offers
Every year, marine fishing is banned along the Andhra Pradesh coast for 61 days (mid-April to mid-June) to let fish stocks breed — a genuinely necessary conservation measure, but one that leaves fishing families with no income for two full months. Matsyakara Sevalo compensates for exactly that gap: ₹20,000 credited to each eligible fishing family during the ban period, plus a year-round diesel subsidy of ₹9 a litre for mechanised boats. Renamed and relaunched from YSR Matsyakara Bharosa by the current government in 2024, the scheme reaches over 1.3 lakh families each year, and in 2026-27 Andhra Pradesh also joined the Group Accident Insurance Scheme (GAIS), adding accident cover for nearly 2.85 lakh fishermen.
