What this scheme offers
A railway station is often the first and most frequent point of contact a town has with the Indian state, and for decades many of them stayed stuck in a condition that reflected decades-old priorities — poor accessibility, inadequate waiting areas, weak connections to the city around them. Amrit Bharat Station Scheme redevelops over 1,300 stations nationwide against that gap: better access roads and circulating areas, lifts and escalators, clean and spacious waiting halls, improved signage, and genuine integration between the station and the city it sits in, rather than treating the station as an isolated transit box. There's no application involved, because the beneficiary isn't an individual — it's every passenger who uses an upgraded station, automatically, the moment the redevelopment is complete.
Who is eligible
- Any rail passenger using a station selected and redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme — no individual eligibility criteria apply.
- Stations are selected by the Ministry of Railways based on passenger footfall, revenue, and strategic importance.
Documents required
- Not applicable — this is station infrastructure redevelopment, not an individual-benefit scheme
How to apply
- There's no application — the benefit is automatic for anyone using a station once it's redeveloped under the scheme.
- Check whether your nearest railway station is selected under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme through the Ministry of Railways or Indian Railways' official announcements.
- If your station hasn't been selected yet, you can raise the matter through your local MP's office or the relevant railway division, since selection rounds continue to be announced in phases.
- Once redevelopment is complete at a station, improved facilities (lifts, escalators, waiting areas, better access) are available to all passengers immediately, at no extra cost beyond your normal ticket.
