What this scheme offers
Niradhar Vruddh Sahay Yojana is Gujarat's own pension for destitute elderly people, run by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department. It pays ₹1,000 a month to those aged 60 to 79 and ₹1,250 to those aged 80 and above, by direct transfer — a May 2026 report from Palanpur taluka noted 3,988 recipients there. The defining condition is that the applicant must not have a son aged 21 or over, because an adult son is expected to support a parent; there is an exception where such a son is mentally unstable or has a serious illness such as cancer or TB. The Mamlatdar approves applications. Older sources quoting ₹750 are out of date, and no BPL score is needed in most summaries.
