Nagaland Strategic Water Resilience Initiative

A ₹24 crore initiative announced in the 2026-27 budget to build piped water supply, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and strategic storage at district headquarters across Nagaland's entirely hilly, forested terrain — a state where scattered rural settlements and difficult topography make reliable water access a genuinely harder infrastructure problem than in most of the country, running alongside the ongoing Jal Jeevan Mission rollout.

What this scheme offers

Nagaland's terrain is entirely hilly and forested, rising to nearly 3,840 metres at Saramati Peak, with a rural population scattered across settlements that a single pipeline can't easily reach the way it might on flat land. The Strategic Water Resilience Initiative, announced with ₹24 crore in the 2026-27 budget, tackles that directly: piped water supply, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and strategic storage built specifically at district headquarters, running alongside — not replacing — the ongoing national Jal Jeevan Mission rollout that's separately working toward household tap connections statewide.

Who is eligible

  • Resident of a district headquarters area covered by the initiative's infrastructure rollout — this is infrastructure investment, not an individual-application scheme.

Documents required

  • None for individuals — infrastructure is planned and built by the Public Health Engineering Department

How to apply

  1. No individual application — infrastructure is built and managed by the PHE Department at the district level.
  2. If your area's water infrastructure hasn't improved despite being near a district headquarters, raise it with your local PHE office or municipal council.
  3. For household tap connections specifically, check your status under the separate Jal Jeevan Mission rollout.
