What this scheme offers
MGNREGA guarantees rural households 100 days of work a year, but its design leaves out towns and cities entirely — a genuine gap for urban households without steady income. Rajasthan built its own urban employment guarantee to close that specific hole: any adult member of an eligible urban household can get up to 125 days of guaranteed paid work a year on local public projects — cleaning, minor infrastructure, and similar municipal work — administered through Urban Local Bodies rather than Gram Panchayats.
