What this scheme offers
Nadu-Nedu ('then and now') tackles a basic but consequential problem: government schools across Andhra Pradesh that lacked functioning toilets, reliable drinking water, electricity or even proper furniture, all of which quietly push families toward private schools or push children out of school altogether. Launched in 2019 and now in its second phase covering 30,000+ additional schools on top of the 15,715 covered in phase one, the programme upgrades English-medium instruction, furniture, toilets, drinking water, electricity, smart classrooms and boundary walls — one of the few large infrastructure programmes that has continued essentially unchanged across the change of government, because school renovation isn't a politically contentious cash-transfer scheme the way many other programmes are.
Who is eligible
- Applies to government schools in Andhra Pradesh selected for the programme — this is an infrastructure upgrade, not an individual-beneficiary scheme.
Documents required
- None for individuals — schools are selected and upgraded directly by the department
How to apply
- No individual application — schools are identified and upgraded in phases by the School Education Department.
- If your child's government school hasn't yet been covered, you can raise it with the school management committee or the Mandal Education Office for consideration in a future phase.
- Track programme progress and phase coverage through the official Nadu-Nedu portal.
