What this scheme offers
An auto-rickshaw, taxi or maxi-cab driver in Andhra Pradesh who owns and runs their own vehicle has no salary to fall back on if business slows, fuel prices spike, or the vehicle needs repairs — the day's earnings are the day's earnings. Vahana Mitra gives ₹15,000 a year in direct financial assistance to these owner-drivers, a modest but genuine cushion for an occupation with real income volatility and no employer safety net.
