Bihar Divyangjan Pension Yojana

A state disability pension for Bihar residents with 40% or more disability who aren't already covered by the central Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme, raised — along with Bihar's old-age and widow pensions — to ₹1,100 a month in the same July 2025 reform, alongside free assistive devices.

What this scheme offers

The central Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme covers persons with 40%+ disability from BPL households specifically — Bihar's own Divyangjan Pension Yojana exists to catch residents with a qualifying disability who fall outside that BPL restriction. In July 2025, Bihar raised this pension alongside its old-age and widow pensions in one combined reform, taking it from ₹400 to ₹1,100 a month, plus continued access to free assistive devices such as wheelchairs, hearing aids or crutches, depending on the nature of the disability.

Who is eligible

  • Permanent resident of Bihar with 40% or more disability, certified by a competent medical authority.
  • Not currently receiving the central Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) or any other overlapping pension.
  • No income ceiling specified for this state scheme (unlike the central IGNDPS, which is BPL-restricted).

Documents required

  • Disability certificate (40%+, from a competent medical board)
  • Aadhaar card
  • Age proof
  • Bank account details (Aadhaar-linked)
  • Residential/domicile proof

How to apply

  1. Apply online at sspmis.bihar.gov.in, or offline at your block office's RTPS counter.
  2. Submit your disability certificate along with Aadhaar and bank details.
  3. Applications are verified at the block/district level to confirm disability status and check for any overlapping central pension.
  4. Once approved, ₹1,100 is credited monthly via DBT, on the same cycle as Bihar's other social security pensions.
  5. Separately apply to your District Disability Welfare Office for free assistive devices, which are issued based on assessed need rather than automatically bundled with the cash pension.
