What this scheme offers
PM Awas Yojana Gramin covers most of the cost of a rural pucca house for BPL families, but Bihar adds its own layer on top for families the central scheme's list doesn't fully serve — releasing ₹1.20 lakh in three DBT instalments tied to how far construction has progressed, so the money arrives when it's actually needed rather than all at once before a single brick is laid. Like the central scheme, beneficiaries are also entitled to guaranteed labour-day support under MGNREGA for the physical work of construction.
Who is eligible
- Rural BPL family in Bihar without a pucca house.
- Does not already own a pucca house anywhere.
- Included in, or eligible under, the relevant rural housing beneficiary list (SECC-based or state-supplementary).
- Valid land or homestead documentation for the construction site.
Documents required
- Aadhaar card
- BPL certificate / SECC reference
- Land or homestead ownership documents
- Bank account details (Aadhaar-linked)
- 'No pucca house' declaration
How to apply
- Check your eligibility status through your Gram Panchayat or the state rural housing portal.
- If included in the beneficiary list, complete registration with your land and identity documents.
- Construction begins after the first instalment (foundation stage) is released.
- Subsequent instalments follow at defined construction milestones (walls, roof) — a field visit typically confirms progress before each release.
- Register for MGNREGA labour-day support separately at your Gram Panchayat if you're doing some of the construction labour yourself.
