Bihar Scholarship Portal (SC/ST/BC/EBC)

Run jointly by Bihar's SC-ST Welfare and BC-EBC Welfare Departments, this covers both Pre-Matric (Class 1–10) and Post-Matric (Class 11 onward) scholarships in one system, with the amount varying by class, category and whether the student lives in a hostel.

What this scheme offers

Rather than running Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarships as entirely separate systems, Bihar's SC-ST and BC-EBC welfare departments jointly operate one portal covering both stages of a student's education — from Class 1 through post-graduation. The Pre-Matric track (Class 1–10) supports younger students still in school, while Post-Matric (Class 11 onward) covers tuition and other compulsory fees plus a monthly maintenance allowance, with hostellers receiving more than day scholars to reflect their higher living costs.

Who is eligible

  • Belongs to SC, ST, BC (Backward Class), or EBC (Extremely Backward Class) category.
  • Bihar domicile.
  • Enrolled in a recognised school (Pre-Matric) or higher-education institution (Post-Matric).
  • Family income within the limit prescribed for the category — commonly cited around ₹2.5 lakh (SC/ST) and ₹1.5–3 lakh (BC/EBC), though thresholds are revised periodically, so confirm the current limit on the portal.

Documents required

  • Caste certificate (SC/ST/BC/EBC)
  • Aadhaar card
  • Previous year's marksheet
  • Income certificate
  • Bonafide/admission certificate from the institution
  • Bank account details (Aadhaar-linked)

How to apply

  1. SC and ST students apply at scstpmsonline.bihar.gov.in; BC and EBC students apply at pmsonline.bihar.gov.in — the two categories use separate portals.
  2. Register with your Aadhaar and fill in personal, academic, income and bank details.
  3. Upload the required documents including your caste and income certificates.
  4. Your institution verifies your enrollment and fee details on the portal.
  5. Once approved, tuition fees are paid to the institution directly, and the monthly maintenance allowance is credited to your own bank account via DBT.
