National Career Service — NCS

A free digital job-matching platform connecting job seekers with government, PSU and private-sector vacancies, plus in-person career counselling at 200+ centres nationwide.

What this scheme offers

NCS modernises India's old, manual employment exchange system into a single digital platform connecting four groups: job seekers, employers (government departments, PSUs, private companies and MSMEs), skill training providers (ITIs, polytechnics, skill centres), and registered career counsellors. Once registered, your profile is matched against job postings, and you receive alerts by SMS and email. The portal covers 31+ lakh live vacancies, offers free career counselling and aptitude testing at 200+ Model Career Centres (MCCs), organises job fairs and Rozgar Melas, and partners with training providers like TCS iON and NSDC for free skill-building courses (corporate communication, digital etiquette, interview readiness, and more). A dedicated "Remote & Flexible Work" section also lists hybrid and remote openings. Registration and use are completely free at every stage — no fee for signup, job application, or interview referral.

Who is eligible

  • Any Indian citizen aged 14 or above can register as a job seeker (parental consent required for those under 18).
  • Employers — any registered company, MSME, government department or PSU — can register to post vacancies.
  • Two profile types: a Short Profile for those with qualifications below Class 12, or a Detailed Profile for higher education, each verified via a Unique ID (PAN, Aadhaar, UAN, etc.).

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card (or an accepted alternative: PAN, Voter ID, Passport, Driving Licence, UAN, or NREGA Job Card)
  • Educational certificates and mark sheets (can be fetched via DigiLocker integration)
  • Resume/work experience details, for the Detailed Profile

How to register

  1. Visit ncs.gov.in and click "Register," selecting "Job Seeker" as your user type.
  2. Enter your personal details — name, date of birth (must exactly match your ID document), qualification, and contact details.
  3. Set up your login credentials, then verify via OTP.
  4. Complete your profile: education, work experience, skills, and location preference. An incomplete profile stalls visibility to recruiters, so fill every tab.
  5. Use DigiLocker integration to fetch verified mark sheets and certificates directly, where available.
  6. Browse and apply to vacancies, or book a career counsellor session (up to ₹300/hour for premium sessions; basic counselling at Model Career Centres is free) for personalised guidance.
