What this scheme offers
This fellowship supports OBC students pursuing research degrees (MPhil and PhD) at recognised Indian universities, colleges and research institutions, in any discipline. Selected fellows receive a monthly stipend aligned with UGC's standard Junior/Senior Research Fellowship rates — currently in the range of ₹31,000 to ₹35,000 a month, rising once the student advances from JRF to SRF status typically after the second year — plus an annual contingency grant for books, research materials, and minor research-related expenses. The fellowship runs for up to 5 years, covering the typical duration of MPhil-to-PhD or direct PhD research, and is paid via Direct Benefit Transfer to the fellow's bank account.
