PM Internship Scheme — PMIS

A paid internship at one of India's top 500 companies — real workplace experience, a monthly stipend, and a bridge between education and your first job.

What this scheme offers

Announced in the 2024-25 Union Budget and now in its expanded 2026 cycle, PMIS places candidates with no full-time work experience into internships (currently running 6 or 9 months, depending on the role) at India's top 500 companies, selected by their average CSR expenditure over the preceding three years. Selected interns receive a minimum ₹9,000/month stipend (funded partly by government DBT, partly by the host company), a one-time ₹6,000 joining grant (paid in two ₹3,000 installments), and insurance cover under PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, with the government covering the premiums. This is not a placement guarantee or a scholarship — it's structured, paid workplace exposure meant to build the practical skills and professional network that pure classroom education often misses. The pilot phase (October 2024) offered 1.25 lakh internships, with a target of reaching 1 crore youth over 5 years.
