PM Matru Vandana Yojana — PMMVY

Cash support for pregnant and lactating women — ₹5,000 for the first living child, plus ₹6,000 more if a second child is a girl — to help offset wage loss and encourage proper maternal care.

What this scheme offers

Under PMMVY 2.0 (part of Mission Shakti), a woman receives ₹5,000 for her first living child, paid in two installments — the first on early pregnancy registration, the second after at least one antenatal check-up and the child's birth registration. If a woman's second child is a girl, she receives an additional ₹6,000 in a single installment, linked to the child's birth registration and first round of immunisation. The scheme works alongside PM Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan and the Janani Suraksha Yojana to build a fuller safety net around pregnancy and childbirth, and money is paid directly into the mother's Aadhaar-linked bank or post office account.

Who is eligible

  • Pregnant and lactating women aged 19 or above.
  • Benefit applies to the first living child, and to a second child only if that child is a girl.
  • Government employees, and women already receiving a similar cash maternity benefit under another law (like paid maternity leave), are generally not eligible.
  • Must register within 150 days of the last menstrual period (LMP) to claim the full benefit on time.

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card
  • Mother and Child Protection (MCP) card, issued at the Anganwadi Centre
  • Bank or post office account passbook
  • Husband's Aadhaar (for identity verification)
  • Birth certificate of the child (for later installments)

How to apply

  1. Register at your nearest Anganwadi Centre (AWC), or an approved health facility, as soon as you confirm pregnancy — ideally within 150 days of your last menstrual period.
  2. Alternatively, register online at pmmvy.wcd.gov.in using your mobile number.
  3. Complete the mandatory Facial Recognition System (FRS) verification via the PMMVY app, done by your Anganwadi Worker or ASHA, to prevent duplicate claims.
  4. The first installment is released on registration and confirmation of pregnancy; the second follows after your antenatal check-up and the child's birth registration.
  5. If eligible for the second-child (girl) installment, submit the birth certificate and immunisation record when they become available.
  6. Track your application status on the PMMVY portal using your registered mobile number or beneficiary ID.
