Delhi Free Cycle Scheme for Class 9 Girls

A free bicycle for girl students in Class 9 at Delhi government schools, announced in the March 2026 budget with ₹90 crore allocated to reach around 1.30 lakh students — aimed at the same daily-commute barrier that similar bicycle schemes in other states target, particularly for girls travelling longer distances to secondary school.

What this scheme offers

Announced in the March 2026 Delhi budget alongside a raft of pro-women measures, this scheme gives a free bicycle to every girl in Class 9 at a Delhi government school — with ₹90 crore allocated to reach an estimated 1.30 lakh students. It follows the same logic several other states have applied to similar bicycle schemes: Class 9 is often where the daily commute to a farther secondary school becomes a genuine barrier for girls, and removing that cost directly targets the point where dropout risk rises.

Who is eligible

  • Girl student enrolled in Class 9 at a Delhi government school.
  • No income restriction — universal for eligible enrolled students.

Documents required

  • School enrollment record (maintained by the school)

How to apply

  1. No individual application is typically needed — schools compile the list of eligible Class 9 girl students.
  2. Confirm with your school administration that you're on the eligible list for the current academic year.
  3. Bicycles are distributed through the school once the government's distribution round for your school reaches your area.
  4. If you believe you're eligible but haven't received your cycle, raise it with your school's principal or the Directorate of Education.
