Delhi Free Water Scheme (20 KL)

Free water supply from the Delhi Jal Board for households with a functional water meter consuming up to 20,000 litres (20 KL) a month.

What this scheme offers

Delhi households with a functional water meter get free water supply for consumption up to 20,000 litres (20 KL) a month — a scheme that began with the AAP government's first budget in 2015 and was later extended, with retrospective effect, to the NDMC area (which includes Lutyens Delhi, Parliament House and the Supreme Court) after initially covering only MCD areas. The scheme continues under the current government as part of its stated commitment to maintaining existing welfare schemes.

Who is eligible

  • Delhi household with a functional Delhi Jal Board water meter.
  • Monthly consumption of 20,000 litres or less for the full waiver.
  • Connection registered with Delhi Jal Board.

Documents required

  • Delhi Jal Board connection/consumer ID
  • Aadhaar card, where required for verification

How to apply

  1. Ensure your household has a functional DJB water meter — without one, the free-water benefit cannot be applied.
  2. Apply for a new connection or meter installation through the Delhi Jal Board portal if you don't already have one.
  3. Check your monthly water bill to confirm the free-water benefit is being applied for consumption within 20 KL.
  4. Contact your local DJB office for billing disputes or to resolve issues with the free-water benefit not being applied correctly.
