What this scheme offers
Under Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana the Delhi government pays for senior citizens to go on guided group pilgrimages: air-conditioned train travel, accommodation and food are all covered, along with one attendant. There are 15 routes, including Haridwar-Rishikesh, Vaishno Devi, Ajmer-Pushkar, Dwarkadhish, Rameswaram, Puri, Tirupati, Ayodhya, Vrindavan-Mathura, Shirdi and Velankanni. The scheme was designed for about 77,000 pilgrims a year, has no income test — poorer applicants are preferred — and each person can go only once in a lifetime. The Cabinet approved it in January 2018 and trips began in 2019; it paused during Covid and again in 2024-25, and restarted in May 2025 under the present government.
