Free Bus Service for Women

Free travel for women on all government-owned transport services across Jammu and Kashmir, including the e-buses running in Srinagar and Jammu under smart city initiatives. Announced in CM Omar Abdullah's first budget and launched from 1 April 2025, fulfilling one of his government's pre-poll promises — covering trips for education, shopping, work, or simply getting around, without needing a separate pass or registration.

What this scheme offers

J&K's first elected government since 2018 — Omar Abdullah took office in October 2024 after years of President's Rule — moved quickly to deliver on its pre-poll promises, and free bus travel for women was one of them. Announced in the March 2025 budget and launched from 1 April 2025, it covers all government-owned transport services, including the newer e-buses running in Srinagar and Jammu under smart city initiatives, giving women free travel for anything from a college commute to a shopping trip or family outing.
