What this scheme offers
A wedding is one of the genuinely large, predictable expenses a lower-income family faces, and J&K's marriage assistance scheme is designed to ease exactly that pressure for eligible families. CM Omar Abdullah raised the benefit substantially in his first budget, from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000 — a 50% increase that reflects both the real cost of a wedding today and the government's stated priority on tangible welfare delivery in its first year in office.
