What this scheme offers
Launched in June 2023, Shakti Yojane lets women, girl students and transgender persons ride Karnataka's ordinary, express and city buses — across all four state transport corporations, some 18,600 buses in total — completely free, with no card, pass or registration required. Luxury and AC services are excluded, but the scheme is otherwise universal, with no caste, religion or income test, and covers even short cross-border trips into neighbouring states. By pulling women onto buses who previously might have skipped a trip over the fare, it's credited with genuinely increasing women's mobility for work, college and errands across the state.
