Gruha Lakshmi Scheme

₹2,000 a month for the woman head of every eligible Karnataka household — one of the state's five signature "guarantee" schemes.

Important 2026 update: the Karnataka government has made reapplication and one-time biometric verification mandatory for all beneficiaries, to remove deceased, duplicate, or income-tax-paying entries from the list. The scheme itself is not being discontinued — this is a verification exercise.

What this scheme offers

One of Karnataka's five "guarantee" schemes, Gruha Lakshmi pays ₹2,000 every month, via Direct Benefit Transfer, to the woman recognised as head of household on her family's ration card. Since payments began on 30 August 2023, eligible women have received 14+ installments totalling ₹28,000 and counting. The scheme deliberately targets homemakers, agricultural labourers, and landless women — those most often excluded from formal income streams — rather than requiring employment or land ownership. Only one woman per household can receive the benefit, and it is designed to be tax-free income support, not a loan or conditional grant.

Who is eligible

  • Woman recognised as head of household on a valid Antyodaya, BPL, or APL ration card in Karnataka.
  • At least 18 years old — no upper age limit.
  • Married, unmarried, widowed, divorced, or separated women are all eligible.
  • Neither the applicant nor her husband should be an income-tax payer or GST filer.
  • Not a central/state government employee or PSU employee.
  • Not already receiving a government pension above a specified threshold, to avoid benefit duplication.

Documents required

  • Ration card (Antyodaya, BPL, or APL) showing the applicant as head of household
  • Aadhaar card, linked to bank account
  • Bank account details

How to apply or reapply

  1. Visit the Seva Sindhu guarantee-schemes portal, or your nearest Seva Sindhu Kendra / Common Service Centre.
  2. If you're an existing beneficiary, complete the mandatory 2026 reapplication and one-time biometric authentication — this can be done at any of the 17,000+ verification kiosks set up statewide.
  3. New applicants submit their ration card, Aadhaar, and bank details for verification.
  4. Check your status via SMS by sending your 12-digit ration card number to 8147500500 or 8277000555, through the DBT Karnataka mobile app, or on the Seva Sindhu application-status page.
  5. If your payment has stopped or your name is missing, visit your local WCD office — approval alone doesn't guarantee payment, so confirm your actual bank credit separately from your application status.
