What this scheme offers
Launched on 9 July 2023 as one of Karnataka's five guarantee schemes, Anna Bhagya provides 10 kg of free rice per month to every eligible household, aimed squarely at food security for the state's economically weaker sections. Unlike schemes requiring a fresh registration process, this benefit is simply added to your existing BPL, Antyodaya, or Priority Household ration card — if your card is valid and Aadhaar-linked, you're covered without further paperwork. As of 2026, the Chief Minister has tied continued eligibility to voter roll accuracy — with the state's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls underway, beneficiaries are being asked to ensure their names remain correctly listed to avoid losing access.
Who is eligible
- Permanent residents of Karnataka holding a valid BPL, Antyodaya, or Priority Household ration card.
- Ration card must be linked to Aadhaar.
- Names must appear correctly in the Karnataka state electoral roll — the government has flagged this as a current point of attention given the ongoing roll revision.
Documents required
- Valid BPL, Antyodaya, or Priority Household ration card
- Aadhaar card, linked to the ration card
How to access the benefit
- No separate application is needed if you already hold a valid, Aadhaar-linked BPL, Antyodaya, or Priority Household ration card.
- Collect your 10 kg of free rice from your regular Fair Price Shop each month, as part of your normal ration collection.
- If you don't yet have an eligible ration card, apply for one through your local Food & Civil Supplies office, meeting the standard BPL/Antyodaya eligibility criteria.
- Given the ongoing electoral roll revision, confirm your name is correctly listed on the voter roll to avoid disruption to your ration benefits.
- Check ahara.kar.nic.in for your ration card status and entitlement details.
