What this scheme offers
Kerala has one of India's largest coastal fisheries networks, and its fisher welfare system reflects that scale: registration through Matsyafed (the Kerala State Co-operative Federation for Fisheries Development) and the Fisher Welfare Board unlocks sea accident insurance, a pension from age 60, a daughter's marriage grant, education support and maternity benefits. Matsyafed's role goes beyond welfare payments — it supplies fishing inputs at subsidised rates to traditional fishermen and runs beach-level auctions specifically to stop middlemen from underpaying fishermen for their catch, plus dedicated 'Vanitha' buses that transport women fish vendors along set routes.
