What this scheme offers
First launched in April 2017 and relaunched as a second phase in February 2021, Deendayal Antyodaya Rasoi Yojana runs kitchen centres where anyone can get a full meal — roti, dal, rice and sabzi — for ₹10 a plate. There's deliberately no eligibility test: no ration card, no Aadhaar, no registration. The kitchens are run with service-provider organisations and self-help groups (which also gives local women paid work), and are placed where daily-wage workers, migrant labourers, rickshaw pullers and the urban poor are most likely to need them. The plate price was ₹5 in the early years and is now ₹10. During the April–June 2021 COVID lockdown, over 27 lakh people were fed through these centres.
