What this scheme offers
A household run by a single woman on a below-poverty-line income faces a genuinely different financial reality than a two-income household — there's simply less to work with, and often less flexibility to absorb an unexpected cost. Puducherry's monthly assistance for women heading BPL families addresses that directly, and the government made a substantial move in the 2025-26 budget: raising the monthly amount from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500, a two-and-a-half-times increase specifically for this group.
