What this scheme offers
Tamil Nadu pays a monthly pension to destitute senior citizens aged 60 and above, administered by the Revenue Department's Commissionerate of Revenue Administration and Disaster Management, which also runs the central NSAP schemes in the state. The Cabinet raised the rate from ₹1,000 to ₹1,200 on 22 July 2023, effective August 2023, and about 35 lakh people now receive a monthly transfer; the Centre's share inside this amount is ₹200 for ages 60–79 and ₹500 from 80, with the state paying the rest. The 2026-27 budget estimate for pensions is about ₹6,905 crore. The new government has promised ₹3,000 a month for the elderly, widows and persons with disabilities, but no order has been issued, so ₹1,200 remains the rate to rely on.
