Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme — Kalaignar Kaappittu Thittam

Cashless health cover of up to ₹25 lakh a year per family — a major increase announced in August 2026 by Tamil Nadu's new state government.

Note: Tamil Nadu elected a new government in 2026 — actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam / TVK) was sworn in as Chief Minister on 18 May 2026, ending decades of DMK/AIADMK rule. This scheme's cover was raised significantly under the new administration; the figures on this page reflect that change.

What this scheme offers

Running since 2009, this scheme provides cashless insurance for major surgeries and medical procedures not covered under the central Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme, at empanelled hospitals across Tamil Nadu. On 19 August 2026, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced the annual cover be raised from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh per family per year — a five-fold increase intended to reduce the financial burden of expensive treatments like cardiac surgery, cancer care and organ transplants. The announcement came alongside other health investments, including a planned 400-bed hospital in Perambur and new cancer treatment centres across the state.

Who is eligible

  • Tamil Nadu families with annual income below ₹1.2 lakh (per the scheme's stated income threshold — confirm current criteria as implementation details finalise under the new administration).
  • Permanent residents of Tamil Nadu.
  • Coordination with Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY means families already covered centrally get combined benefit continuity rather than duplicate registration.

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card
  • Income certificate
  • Ration card
  • Residence proof (Tamil Nadu)
