Ayushman Bharat — PM-JAY

Cashless health cover of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for hospital treatment at empanelled hospitals across India.

What this scheme offers

PM-JAY covers secondary and tertiary hospitalisation — including surgeries and treatment for serious conditions such as cancer and cardiac care — at empanelled government and private hospitals, with no cash payment at the point of treatment. Cover applies per family, with no cap on family size or age.

Who is eligible

  • Families identified in the government's socio-economic beneficiary database for their state.
  • All citizens aged 70 and above qualify separately, regardless of income category, and receive an Ayushman Vay Vandana Card.
  • Certain frontline health workers (ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and helpers) are covered under related provisions in several states.

Note: beneficiaries already covered under CGHS or ECHS can choose to continue their existing scheme or switch to PM-JAY, but cannot use both simultaneously.

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card
  • Ration card or family ID, where applicable
  • Mobile number for e-KYC (face authentication or OTP)
