What this scheme offers
Formerly known as Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) and rebranded as Ayushman Arogya Mandir in 2024, this network upgrades existing Sub-Centres and Primary Health Centres into full-service local health hubs. Each centre offers 12 service packages: maternal and child health, screening for common non-communicable diseases (hypertension, diabetes, oral/breast/cervical cancer), mental health support, basic eye and ENT care, geriatric and palliative care, dental care, yoga, and tele-consultation through the eSanjeevani platform connecting you to specialists remotely. Centres also stock 40+ essential medicines and offer 14+ diagnostic tests, all free of charge — this is your first point of contact in the public health system, distinct from Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, which covers hospitalisation costs separately.
Who is eligible
- Every resident of India — services are universal, with no income, category, or health-card requirement.
- No prior registration is needed to walk in and access services.
Documents required
- A valid photo ID is generally recommended, though not always strictly required for a first visit
- Any existing medical records, if you have them, to help staff assess ongoing conditions
How to access services
- Locate your nearest Ayushman Arogya Mandir — ask your local ASHA worker or Anganwadi worker, who often help with registration and information at the grassroots level, or check the NHM/state health department website.
- Visit during operating hours and register at the centre — this is quick and doesn't require prior appointment for most services.
- Staff will guide you to the relevant service: general consultation, a specific screening, diagnostics, or a tele-consultation with a specialist via eSanjeevani.
- Watch for community health camps and outreach programmes, often organised through the centre, where registration and screening happen on-site.
- For conditions needing hospitalisation, staff will refer and help connect you to Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY coverage where eligible.
