Gruha Jyothi Scheme (Telangana)

Free electricity up to 200 units a month for every domestic household in Telangana.

What this scheme offers

Launched by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in August 2023 as one of the Congress government's five (later expanded to six) 'Pancha Guarantees', Gruha Jyothi gives every domestic electricity connection in Telangana up to 200 units of free power a month. It works as a genuine threshold rather than a subsidy calculation tied to past usage: consumers using 200 units or less pay nothing at all, while those above it are billed only for the units beyond 200 — a simpler design than schemes elsewhere that calculate the free allowance against a household's own historical average. Over 1.49 crore domestic connections, an estimated 5.11 crore households, benefit.

Who is eligible

  • Domestic electricity connection in Telangana.
  • No income or BPL restriction — universal for all registered domestic consumers.
  • Connection registered and in regular billing cycle with the local discom.

Documents required

  • Electricity bill / consumer number (no separate registration typically needed)

How to apply

  1. No separate application in most cases — the benefit is applied automatically to registered domestic connections.
  2. Check your bill each cycle to confirm the free-unit benefit is being applied.
  3. If your bill doesn't reflect the benefit despite consuming 200 units or less, contact your local discom (TSSPDCL or TSNPDCL) office.
  4. Ensure your connection details (name, address) are current with the discom to avoid billing discrepancies.
