What this scheme offers
PM Surya Ghar pays a direct Central Financial Assistance (CFA) subsidy into the homeowner's bank account for installing a rooftop solar system: ₹30,000 for a 1 kW system, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and a maximum of ₹78,000 for 3 kW or larger. The subsidy is credited 30–45 days after your local DISCOM (power distribution company) completes inspection and net-metering. The scheme targets 1 crore solar-powered households nationally by 2027, and several states offer an additional top-up subsidy on top of the central amount.
Who is eligible
- Indian citizen who owns a house with a roof suitable for solar panels (flat or sloped, with adequate space and sunlight).
- Must hold a valid electricity connection from the local DISCOM.
- Tenants can apply too, with the property owner's written consent (NOC) in place of ownership documents.
- Housing society residents can apply where rooftop rights are established.
- Installation must go through an MNRE-empanelled vendor, using ALMM-listed (approved) panels — this is a common reason applications are rejected if missed.
Documents required
- Aadhaar card
- Latest electricity bill / consumer number
- Proof of ownership (property papers), or landlord's NOC if a tenant
