Mahalakshmi Scheme

One of Telangana's six flagship 'guarantee' schemes: ₹2,500 a month (₹30,000 a year) credited directly to the woman head of every eligible household, bundled with free travel for women on TSRTC buses, an LPG cylinder at a flat ₹500, and an additional ₹500 a month for BPL households. Around 1.28 crore women are targeted.

What this scheme offers

Announced as one of the Congress government's six poll guarantees and approved on day one after Revanth Reddy took office in December 2023, Mahalakshmi bundles several distinct benefits under one name rather than being a single cash transfer: ₹2,500 a month goes to the woman head of every eligible household, LPG cylinders are available at a flat ₹500 regardless of market price, women travel free on TSRTC buses, and BPL households get a further ₹500 a month on top. Around 1.28 crore women are targeted across the state, with rollout happening in phases since 2024 rather than all at once.

Who is eligible

  • Woman resident of Telangana, typically the head of household or senior woman member.
  • Family meets the income/BPL criteria prescribed for the specific component (cash transfer vs BPL top-up may differ).
  • Aadhaar-linked bank account for the DBT components.

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card
  • Ration card
  • Bank account details (Aadhaar-linked)
  • Residential proof

How to apply

  1. Apply through the Mahalakshmi portal (mahalakshmi.telangana.gov.in) or your local Praja Palana Seva Kendra.
  2. Submit Aadhaar, ration card and bank account details.
  3. Applications are verified at the local level.
  4. Once approved, the ₹2,500 monthly cash component is credited via DBT; the LPG, free-bus and BPL top-up components apply through their own respective processes (gas agency, TSRTC, ration-card linkage).
  5. Track your application status through Praja Palana, which functions as the single tracking platform for all six guarantee schemes.
