Sanna Biyyam — Free Fine Rice (Telangana)

Six kilograms of free fine rice per person per month through ration shops for ration-card families in Telangana — launched on 30 March 2025, covering about 3 crore people, and collectable at any ration shop in the state.

What this scheme offers

Sanna Biyyam gives ration-card families in Telangana 6 kg of free fine rice per person per month through the public distribution system. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy launched it at Huzurnagar on Ugadi, 30 March 2025, and distribution began on 1 April. It replaced the coarse rice that people often did not eat and sometimes sold on, which the government said fed black-marketing. Every member on a card gets the full 6 kg with no family cap, and a beneficiary can collect from any fair-price shop in the state, not only the shop the card is attached to. At launch about 2.85 crore people on roughly 90 lakh cards were covered, with 30 lakh more applications to be cleared to take it to about 3.10 crore — around 85% of the population — at an annual cost of about ₹10,600 crore.
