What this scheme offers
Originally created for children orphaned by COVID-19, this scheme has since widened to cover children who've lost both parents in other circumstances too, recognising that the underlying problem — a child with no parental support and no income — doesn't stop being urgent once a pandemic ends. Eligible children receive ₹4,000 every month plus free education support, and where a child has no family member able to care for them, placement in an approved residential facility or Atal Awasiya Vidyalaya alongside the financial support.
Who is eligible
- Child (up to 18 years) who has lost both parents.
- Resident of Uttar Pradesh.
- Legal guardian or Child Welfare Committee (CWC) recommendation confirming the child's status.
- No separate income limit specified — the qualifying event is the loss of both parents, not household income.
Documents required
- Death certificates of both parents
- Child's birth certificate
- Aadhaar card (child and guardian)
- Guardian/caretaker details and relationship proof
- Bank account details (guardian's or child's, as specified)
How to apply
- Apply online at upmbsy.in, or offline through the District Probation Officer (DPO) or the local Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
- Submit the child's details along with both parents' death certificates.
- The application is verified at the district level, including a home visit in many cases to confirm the child's living situation.
- Once approved, the monthly payment begins via DBT to the registered account, and education support (fees, materials, or residential school placement) is arranged separately.
- Keep the CWC or DPO office informed of any change in the child's guardian or living situation.
