What this scheme offers
Farming income depends on a season going well in ways no farmer fully controls — weather, pests, disease can all wipe out a harvest regardless of effort. Assam's crop insurance scheme keeps farmers' own contribution deliberately low — just 2% of the sum insured for Kharif crops and 1.5% for Rabi crops — with the state and central government covering the rest of the actuarial premium, so that meaningful protection against yield loss doesn't require a farmer to pay anything close to its real cost.
Who is eligible
- Farmer cultivating a notified crop in Assam.
- Land records or tenant farming documentation, per the scheme's requirements.
- Premium paid for the relevant season (Kharif or Rabi).
Documents required
- Aadhaar card
- Land records (or tenant farming certificate, where applicable)
- Bank account details (Aadhaar-linked)
- Sowing certificate, where required
How to apply
- Enrol through your bank if you have a Kisan Credit Card loan for the notified crop (enrollment may be automatic), or apply directly through the insurance company/CSC for non-loanee farmers.
- Pay your share of the premium (2% for Kharif, 1.5% for Rabi) by the notified cutoff date for your area and crop.
- In the event of crop loss, a government assessment (crop cutting experiment/yield estimation) determines the claim amount.
- Approved claims are credited via DBT to your bank account.
- Report crop loss promptly to your local agriculture office or insurance company, within the notified reporting window.
