What this scheme offers
Rather than participating in the central PM Fasal Bima Yojana, Odisha runs its own state-funded crop insurance under Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana, covering all farmers in the state against crop loss without requiring them to pay a premium themselves. The state-run model gives Odisha more direct control over claim assessment and payout timelines than a centrally-administered scheme would, though it also means the scheme's terms and coverage specifics are set entirely by the state government rather than a shared central framework.
Who is eligible
- Farmer cultivating land in Odisha, growing a notified crop.
- No premium payment required — coverage is state-funded.
- Crop loss due to a notified natural calamity, per the scheme's assessment criteria.
Documents required
- Aadhaar card
- Land records
- Bank account details (Aadhaar-linked)
- Crop details for the affected season
How to apply
- Coverage is generally linked to registered farmer/land records with the Department of Agriculture — check your registration status at your local agriculture office.
- In the event of crop loss from a notified calamity, a government survey (similar to girdawari) assesses the extent of damage.
- Farmers whose land falls within the assessed loss area are identified for compensation.
- Compensation is credited via DBT to the farmer's Aadhaar-linked bank account once assessment is complete.
- Contact your Block Agriculture Office if you believe you're eligible but weren't included in the assessment.
