Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Scheme

Monthly financial assistance for girl students in Assam from Class 9 through post-graduation, aimed squarely at the years when dropout and child-marriage risk are highest — ₹10,000 on joining Class 9, ₹12,500 for first-year undergraduate study, ₹15,000 for post-graduation, plus ongoing monthly stipends up to ₹2,500. Open to girls from all economic backgrounds, launched in the 2024 budget and relaunched as version 2.0 in August 2025.

What this scheme offers

Launched in the 2024 budget with ₹240 crore allocated, Nijut Moina targets the exact years where Assam has historically lost girls to both dropout and early marriage — Class 9 onward. Every girl joining Class 9 gets ₹10,000, first-year undergraduate students get ₹12,500, and those starting post-graduation get ₹15,000, on top of a running monthly stipend of up to ₹2,500 through the years in between. The scheme is deliberately open to girls from all economic backgrounds rather than only BPL families, and was relaunched as Nijut Moina 2.0 in August 2025 with an expanded application drive across the state. Assam reported achieving zero school dropout rate among girls in October 2025, a milestone the state government has credited partly to this scheme.
