What this scheme offers
NAPS connects candidates with registered employers for structured apprenticeships combining hands-on training with classroom instruction, across trades and sectors from manufacturing to IT. Apprentices receive a monthly stipend — recently revised upward to a base range of ₹6,800 to ₹12,300 depending on qualification level — with the government reimbursing part of this to the employer, alongside covering basic training costs. Companies above a certain size are required to maintain apprentices at 2.5% to 15% of their total workforce, which drives consistent demand for apprentice positions. A significant 2025 update recognised degree apprenticeships (letting college students work and study simultaneously) and opened remote/virtual apprenticeships for IT and desk-based roles, widening access beyond factory-floor trades.
Who is eligible
- Aged 14 or above for regular trades (18+ for hazardous work environments), up to 35.
- No strict minimum educational qualification for many trades, though specific roles may require Class 8, 10, ITI, diploma or degree-level education.
- Graduates of short-term government skill programmes (like PMKVY) are often well-positioned for relevant apprenticeship roles.
- Both freshers and those with some prior education/training can apply.
