Delhi Pension Scheme to Women in Distress

₹2,500 a month for widowed, divorced, separated, deserted or destitute women aged 18 or above who have lived in Delhi for five years and earn less than ₹1 lakh a year.

What this scheme offers

Delhi pays ₹2,500 a month to women who are on their own through widowhood, divorce, separation or desertion, or who are destitute. It is the third pension stream the Delhi government runs alongside the old-age and disability pensions, and it covers a woman from age 18 for life — there is no waiting until 40 or 60. The money is paid by direct transfer into a single-operated, Aadhaar-linked bank account. In February 2026 widow-pension and disability-pension beneficiaries were also brought under the PM-JAY health scheme, with Delhi adding its own top-up to the cover.

Who is eligible

  • A woman aged 18 years or above (the pension continues for life).
  • A widow, or a divorced, separated, abandoned, deserted or destitute woman without adequate means of subsistence.
  • Resident of Delhi for at least five years before the date of application.
  • Applicant's own annual income from all sources must be below ₹1,00,000.
  • She should not already be receiving another government pension or assistance, and should hold a single-operated Aadhaar-linked bank account.

Documents required

  • Age proof (birth certificate, school certificate or other government ID)
  • Proof of residence in Delhi for the last five years
  • Marital-status documents: husband's death certificate for a widow, divorce or separation papers, or a destitute declaration
  • Income certificate or self-declaration of income below ₹1 lakh
  • Aadhaar card and a passbook of the Aadhaar-linked bank account
