What this scheme offers
Gujarat runs its own crop-loss compensation scheme rather than relying only on the central PMFBY, with a design that trades comprehensiveness for speed and simplicity: no premium to pay, no policy to buy in advance, and a single trigger — losing 33% or more of the standing Kharif crop to a notified natural calamity (flood, unseasonal rain, drought, pest attack). Compensation is tiered by severity, ₹20,000 per hectare for losses between 33-60%, stepping up to ₹25,000 per hectare for losses beyond 60%, aimed at getting money to affected farmers quickly rather than through a lengthy claims-assessment process.
Who is eligible
- Farmer with land records in Gujarat growing a Kharif crop.
- Crop loss of 33% or more due to a notified natural calamity.
- Land situated in a district/taluka officially notified for the calamity.
Documents required
- Aadhaar card
- Land records (7/12, 8-A)
- Bank account details (Aadhaar-linked)
- Crop details for the affected season
How to apply
- Check whether your taluka has been notified for calamity-based compensation via the iKhedut portal (ikhedut.gujarat.gov.in) or your local Agriculture Office.
- If notified, the state conducts a girdawari (crop damage survey) to assess the extent of loss village by village.
- Farmers whose survey results show 33%+ loss are automatically identified — a separate individual claim isn't always required, though confirming your land records are current helps avoid delays.
- Compensation is credited via DBT to the farmer's Aadhaar-linked bank account once the survey and verification are complete.
- Contact your Taluka Agriculture Office if you believe you're eligible but haven't been included in the survey list.
