Sant Surdas Yojana (Gujarat)

₹1,000 a month for children aged 0 to 17 in Gujarat with a disability of 80% or more, paid by direct transfer until they turn 18 — a children's scheme, not a general adult disability pension.

What this scheme offers

Sant Surdas Yojana is a Gujarat scheme for children with severe disabilities, and it is often wrongly described as a general disability pension. It pays ₹1,000 a month by direct transfer to children aged 0 to 17 whose disability is 80% or more under the RPwD Act, and the assistance stops when the child turns 18. The idea is to ease the cost of care and development in the family. The disability must be certified, with a valid disability card or UDID, and the application asks for a BPL-list certificate with a score up to 20 — although some summaries say there is no income criterion, so check with the district office. Older sources quoting ₹600 a month are out of date.

Who is eligible

  • The child must be a native of Gujarat.
  • Age between 0 and 17 years; the assistance ends when the child turns 18.
  • Disability of 80% or more (benchmark disability under the RPwD Act, 2016), with a valid disability card or UDID.
  • The application asks for a certificate showing the family in the BPL list with a score up to 20 — confirm whether this applies in your district.

Documents required

  • Passport-size photograph of the child
  • Aadhaar card of the child
  • UDID card or disability certificate (80% or more)
  • Proof of residence
  • BPL-list certificate with score up to 20
  • Caste certificate, if applicable
  • Bank passbook first page or cancelled cheque
