Ladli Beti Scheme (Jammu & Kashmir)

₹1,000 a month into the account of a girl born on or after 1 April 2015 until she is 14 (₹1.68 lakh in all), growing to about ₹6.5 lakh at 21, for J&K families with income up to ₹75,000 — though ₹112.86 crore of payments for April–August 2026 was reported pending.

What this scheme offers

The Ladli Beti Scheme, started on 1 April 2015, is a savings scheme for girls in low-income Jammu and Kashmir families. For every eligible girl born on or after that date, the government puts ₹1,000 a month into an account at J&K Bank until she is 14 — ₹1.68 lakh in all — and the balance then continues as a term deposit that is expected to mature at about ₹6.5 lakh when she turns 21. The family's annual income must not exceed ₹75,000. Applications are now handled through an end-to-end online service launched in September 2022, with the Deputy Commissioner deciding within about ten days. The government told the Assembly in September 2026 that ₹112.86 crore of Ladli Beti payments for April to August 2026, covering 2,25,720 beneficiaries, were pending, and gave no date for clearing them.

  • The money goes into the girl's own account, held at J&K Bank.
  • Parents cannot add their own deposits during the first phase.

Documents required

  • Birth certificate of the girl child
  • Income certificate showing family income below ₹75,000 a year
  • Aadhaar cards of the parents and the child
  • Proof of J&K residence
  • Bank account details and photograph

  2. Fill in the girl's and parents' details and upload the documents.
  3. The Deputy Commissioner decides on the application, normally within about ten days.
