Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana (JMMSY)

₹2,500 a month, credited via DBT, to eligible women aged 18-50 in Jharkhand.

What this scheme offers

JMMSY has become something of a textbook case in how direct cash transfers can shape an election outcome. Launched in August 2024 at ₹1,000 a month, just ahead of the state Assembly election, the BJP countered with its own promised Gogo Didi Yojana at ₹2,100 — a promise that never had to be honoured, since BJP lost. The JMM-led alliance, having raised its own offer to ₹2,500 during the campaign, kept that promise once re-elected, and the higher rate has applied since December 2024, with arrears credited in some cases. At roughly 56 lakh beneficiaries and ₹30,000 a year each, the scheme now accounts for something like 14-15% of Jharkhand's entire state budget — genuinely one of the largest single welfare commitments of any Indian state relative to its size. A brief note on the numbers: while ₹2,500 is by far the most consistently reported current rate, one recent official portal listing showed ₹1,000, which may reflect a display error, a different reference period, or a change not yet reflected across sources — worth a direct check before you rely on the figure for planning.
