What this scheme offers
Registration with Karnataka's construction workers' welfare board — one of the larger such boards in the country, reportedly covering around 60 lakh workers — opens access to accident death cover, a maternity benefit, support for children's education, and a pension for masons, labourers, electricians and other construction trades, funded through a cess collected on construction projects statewide. Like similar boards elsewhere, it's an unorganised workforce's main route to any institutional safety net at all.
