Ksheeradhare Milk Producers' Incentive (Karnataka)

An incentive of ₹5 for every litre of milk a Karnataka dairy farmer supplies to a KMF cooperative society, paid by direct transfer — introduced in 2008 at ₹2 and raised to ₹5 from November 2016.

What this scheme offers

Ksheeradhare, also called the Milk Producers' Incentive, pays dairy farmers a fixed amount for every litre of milk they supply to a cooperative society of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF). It began on 8 September 2008 at ₹2 a litre, rose to ₹4 on 14 May 2013 and to ₹5 a litre from 19 November 2016, which is the rate on KMF's official page. The purpose is to make dairying profitable at village level and to draw youth and unemployed people into it. Payment moved to direct transfer into farmers' bank accounts after complaints about delays through societies, although milk unions have held up payment in some years. There is no separate application: you earn the incentive by supplying milk through a society.

Who is eligible

  • A milk producer who is a member of, and supplies milk to, a Primary Dairy Cooperative Society affiliated to a KMF milk union in Karnataka.
  • The incentive is paid on each litre actually supplied and recorded at the society.
  • An Aadhaar-seeded bank account is needed for the direct transfer.
  • No land, income or caste test is mentioned on KMF's page.

Documents required

  • Membership of a Dairy Cooperative Society (DCS)
  • Aadhaar card
  • Bank passbook of an Aadhaar-seeded account
  • Society pass-book or record of the milk supplied

How to apply

  1. Become a member of the Dairy Cooperative Society in your village, or one nearby, by taking up the membership share it requires.
  2. Give the society your Aadhaar and bank account details so the incentive can be sent directly.
  3. Supply milk to the society every day; each litre is recorded at the collection centre.
  4. The incentive of ₹5 per litre is worked out on the recorded quantity and transferred to your account.
  5. If a payment is delayed, ask the society secretary or the milk union office for its status.
