What this scheme offers
A health insurance scheme with an annual cap works reasonably well for a one-time surgery, but poorly for a condition that requires treatment every single week for years — dialysis being the clearest example. Samaswasam addresses that mismatch directly through two components: Samaswasam I pays ₹1,100 a month to BPL patients on regular dialysis for kidney failure (350 beneficiaries as of the last count), while Samaswasam II supports the genuinely large expense of kidney or liver transplantation. Together they cover the ongoing, ordinary-life cost of chronic illness that insurance built around discrete hospital episodes tends to miss.
