Karunya Arogya Suraksha Padhathi — KASP

Cashless health cover of ₹5 lakh a year for Kerala's low-income and vulnerable families — merging five earlier health schemes into one, with pre-existing conditions covered from day one.

Note: KASP is not open for general new enrolment — eligibility is restricted to specific beneficiary groups identified by the government (RSBY/CHIS records, SECC 2011 data). This page explains who qualifies and how to check your status, not a general application process.

What this scheme offers

KASP is Kerala's state implementation of the central Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme, formed by converging five earlier programmes: Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), the Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CHIS), the Senior Citizen Health Insurance Scheme (SCHIS), the Karunya Benevolent Fund (KBF), and PM-JAY itself. It provides cashless coverage of ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalisation at empanelled hospitals, reaching over 42 lakh families (roughly 64 lakh individuals) in the bottom 40% of Kerala's population. Unlike some equivalent schemes, KASP has no cap on family size or age, and covers pre-existing diseases from the start rather than after a waiting period. The related Karunya Benevolent Fund component separately covers costlier conditions like cancer, haemophilia, kidney and heart disease for families earning under ₹3 lakh a year, and Arogya Kiranam offers free treatment for children under 18 at government hospitals.

Who is eligible

  • Families holding a valid RSBY/CHIS card for 2018-2019, or identified under the 2011 Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) as economically weaker.
  • For the Karunya Benevolent Fund specifically: family annual income under ₹3 lakh, regardless of BPL/APL status.
  • New enrolments beyond these identified groups are generally not open — eligibility is based on being in an already-identified beneficiary category.

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card
  • RSBY/CHIS card, or proof of SECC identification
  • Income certificate, for KBF component eligibility
