Mukhyamantri Baliraja Mofat Veej Yojana (Maharashtra)

Free electricity for agricultural pumps up to 7.5 HP in Maharashtra from April 2024 to March 2029, with zero-amount bills for about 44 lakh farmers — the state pays the whole farm-power bill.

What this scheme offers

Mukhyamantri Baliraja Mofat Veej Yojana makes electricity for farm pumps of up to 7.5 horsepower free for five years, from April 2024 to March 2029. The state, not the farmer, pays Mahavitaran for the power, and farmers receive a zero-amount bill; the bills for April to June 2024 were waived and zero bills began from July 2024. It covers about 44 lakh farmers (the 2025-26 budget document speaks of 45 lakh pumps) at a provision of about ₹14,760 crore a year, and ₹7,978 crore of subsidy had been given by December 2024. It applies only to agricultural connections, and pumps above 7.5 HP are outside it. A March 2025 budget report noted that no fresh allocation was made for 2025-26, so even though the scheme is notified to 2029, confirm continuity with your Mahavitaran office.

Who is eligible

  • A farmer holding a Mahavitaran agricultural connection in Maharashtra.
  • The pump capacity must be 7.5 HP or less; larger pumps are not covered.
  • The connection must be used for agriculture only.
  • No separate application is generally needed — a zero-amount bill is issued; if your bill still shows charges, raise it with your sub-division office.

Documents required

  • Mahavitaran consumer number or the latest electricity bill
  • 7/12 land extract in the farmer's name
  • Aadhaar card
  • Pump capacity (HP) as recorded on the connection

How to apply

  1. Check your latest Mahavitaran agricultural bill — under the scheme the amount payable should be zero.
  2. If it still shows charges, note the consumer number and the pump capacity in HP printed on the bill.
  3. Visit your Mahavitaran sub-division office, or use the complaint option on the Mahavitaran app or portal, and ask for the Baliraja Mofat Veej Yojana benefit.
  4. Submit the 7/12 extract and Aadhaar if asked, to correct the connection category or load.
  5. Keep your zero bills; the bills for April to June 2024 and earlier arrears were dealt with under the scheme.
