What this scheme offers
Construction workers build the infrastructure everyone else relies on, but they're also among the most precarious workers in any economy — daily-wage, seasonal, and with almost no institutional safety net beyond what a state welfare board provides. CM LIGHT gives registered construction workers in Meghalaya ₹5,000 in direct financial assistance, announced by CM Conrad Sangma on International Workers' Day (1 May 2026) alongside a genuinely coordinated package: a Startup Toolkit Support Scheme to help skilled workers move into self-employment, the ENABLE initiative offering reserved seats and full fee waivers for workers' children, and the BUILD programme strengthening community infrastructure in areas with high worker populations.
