What this scheme offers
Named after Devi Subhadra, sister of Lord Jagannath — a choice meant to give the scheme cultural resonance beyond just the money — Subhadra Yojana was a central BJP promise before the 2024 Odisha elections and became the government's flagship programme the moment it took office, launched by PM Modi himself on 17 September 2024. It pays ₹10,000 a year to eligible women aged 21-60, split into two instalments timed around Raksha Bandhan and International Women's Day, for a total of ₹50,000 over the scheme's five-year run through 2029. Women already holding an NFSA or SFSS ration card are covered automatically; others need an income certificate showing family income under ₹2.5 lakh. By August 2026 the government had disbursed five instalments to over 1.03 crore women.
